If you’ve just invested in a new leather sofa, you’ll want to do everything you can to maintain its quality and appearance.
At Thomas Lloyd, we’ve been designing and making leather furniture for more than 30 years, perfectly placing us to provide advice and guidance on leather sofa care. We only use the highest quality leather for our furniture collections, which is why we believe our leather sofas deserve respect in the form of careful maintenance. By following our simple steps, you should be able to extend the life of your leather furniture well beyond our 2-year guarantee, providing you with comfort and support for years to come.
Heat can have a huge impact on the appearance and durability of your leather furniture. That’s why we always recommend to keep your leather sofa away from direct heat sources, such as radiators and stoves. Even a hot mug has the ability to damage your leather furniture and leave a permanent mark.
Your leather sofa should be dusted and hoovered along with the rest of your home. Use a soft brush attachment on your hoover or a microfibre cloth to remove any dust or crumbs from your sofa. This is particularly important if your leather sofa has upholstery buttons, like our Grand Chesterfield suite.
When cleaning your leather sofa, it’s always best to avoid using too much water, as this can lead to a water stain. Instead, we’d recommend regularly wiping your leather sofa with a damp cloth and soft cloth polish. Should you need to remove a stain, try using a damp cloth and saddle soap to take care of your leather sofa.
By keeping your leather furniture out of direct sunlight, you can prevent leather sun damage which could otherwise lead to discolouration, drying, and cracking. So, if your Burlington leather sofa happens to be placed in the path of direct sunlight and cannot be moved, simply try and close your blinds or curtains throughout the hottest parts of the day.
You can remove the cushions on all of our leather sofas, from our modern Aspen to our classic Victoria. Regularly plumping, rotating, and flipping your sofa cushions helps to bring air back into the cushions, keeping them soft and comfortable. This will also help to maintain the appearance of your leather sofa and keep it looking as good as new.
Treating your leather sofa with a protection treatment will enable your furniture to repel oils, which could otherwise lead to stains. Our leather care kit includes a highly advanced leather protector, which creates an invisible protective layer to ensure those accidental spills don’t become permanent marks.
