If you are currently in the process of shopping around for a new leather sofa, you need to consider how it will look in 5 years time. Will it still be a pleasure to sit on and extremely stylish? A lot of people buy sofas based on their aesthetics without even considering their internal build quality. It’s all very well purchasing the most attractive leather sofa that you can find, but how will it hold up after years of regular usage?
Having manufactured Leather sofas and furniture since 1981, we have learnt a great deal about what people want. From this, we have consistently striven to improve our products year on year to ensure that their level of quality is unrivalled by other leather furniture manufacturers.
Going back to when the now classic brown Chesterfield sofas were first made, they were made by hand by highly skilled individuals. We believe this is how all leather sofas should be made; it’s the personal touch that makes them special. This is why all of our leather furniture is handmade with the utmost care in our South Wales base. Unfortunately, many sofas these days are made with materials that cost the bare minimum, and because the materials cost so little, manufacturers are able to mass produce them with machines. What this does is take the personal touch and durability away from furniture.
You shouldn’t have to pay large sums of money to have a sofa that is made to a high standard. At Thomas Lloyd we are able to offer near enough trade prices to our customers. The reason that we can offer these prices is not because the materials we use costs very little, it’s because we don’t have to pay expensive shop overheads such as rent, heating and lighting. We pass our savings on to customers, allowing them to purchase high end furniture that would cost significantly more elsewhere. When you see furniture shops selling sofas at very high prices, it’s not always because their product is of high quality, sometimes it’s because they have a lot of overheads to cover.
While the quality of the leather we use is of paramount importance to us, we place just as much emphasis on the inside of our furniture. It’s no use having a sofa that’s covered in beautiful leather if its frame is made using cheap wood. Regardless of how good your furniture looks, it’s the stuff you can’t see that determines its quality and durability. For example, the frame is what keeps your sofa together, so it’s essential that it can stand the test of time and stand up to the stresses of everyday use.
We hand assemble all of our frames using carefully selected hardwoods. To ensure that our leather sofas are made to a high standard, all of our finished products and frames are tested to BS 4875 and BS EN 1022. We only use superior serpentine high-tensile steel springing systems. This means that every spring we use is entirely self-supporting.
Furthermore, we also spring the backs and arms of our traditional leather furniture. It’s the extra emphasis that we place on unseen aspects of our furniture that makes them last considerably longer than shop furniture. As well as priding ourselves on the comfort of our traditional furniture, we also pride ourselves on its safety. This is why we only use fully fire safe products that meet the BS 5852 (British Fire Safety Standard). In short, our leather sofas are just as good on the inside as they are on the outside.
